LID SECTORS
The Local Infrastructure Development (LID) Policy 2061 has entitled and classified seven sectors under Local Infrastructure Developments.
Local Transport
The national transport policy, 2001, under road transport, has classified the local transport system into District Roads, Village Roads, Agricultural Roads, and Main trails. The policy had mentioned that the Department of Local Infrastructure Development and Agricultural Roads, Under the Ministry of Local Development, has to facilitate for the construction and maintenance of local road system. As per the national transport policy, 2001, it is envisaged that the development of local road system in coordination with the national road network will support to enhance the effectiveness of the highways and feeder roads.
Small Irrigation and river control
The irrigation schemes serving up to 25 hectare in hills and up to 200 hectare in Terai, ground water projects like shallow tube wells, roar pumps etc. fall under the responsibility of local bodies. River training programs of the streams and rivers within a district are also to be implemented through local bodies.
Micro hydro and alternative energy
Production and distribution of micro hydro power upto 500kw and all alternative energy related programs are to be implemented by local bodies
Water Supply, Sewerage and Sanitation
Local Infrastructure Development Policy, 2004, has provision under water supply, sewerage and sanitation that water supply projects, sewerage and personal, household or community sanitation and environmental improvement related activities are to be implemented by local bodies.
Housing, building and urban development
LID policy, 2004, has provisioned under housing building and urban development
• Consolidation of scattered rural settlements.
• Physical planning in municipal and municipal oriented areas.
• Disaster related preparedness and awareness building programs
Solid Waste Management
The programs under solid waste management includes those related to waste collection, desegregation, transportation and the development and operation of compost plants and sanitary landfill site of municipal oriented VDCs and municipalities.
Social Infrastructure
Social infrastructure includes the programs related to construction, operation and maintenance of local community and public buildings, government offices, health, education, communal, recreational, archeological, cultural, and religious.
